Nita rushed to the backyard and saw her father put a bunch of plastic bags on the fire andkept stirring them with a stick.

“Why are you burning those plastic bags,Dad?”Nita/asked.

"I have just learned that these bags will last an incredibly long time if they are buried.Plastic doesn't break down in the earth.Burning is the only way to remove them quickly,Nita,"her father replied.

Nita felt a wave of sadness for the earth but icouldn't help voicing her doubt.“Burníngisn't good for the earth,either,"she complained.“And the smoke is killing us now!”

Her father let out a heavy sigh.He understood his daughter's concern.But he could notfind another way to get rid of those used plastic bags that kept piling up in the kitchen.Throwing away the stick,he sat down on the ground with Nita and said,“Perhaps we have tofind a better solution.”

Nita was used to seeing her parents take home various things in plastic bags and she alsodid the same.It was the first time for her to notice the plastic problem at home.

That afternoon,as Nita's mother returned from the market with a lot of plastic bags,Nita felt a growing sense of unease.“The cycle of buying and burning seems endless!”Nitathought."I have to do something to break the cycle!"

Later that day,Nita found herself watching her mother cut used shirts to make a mop(拖把).Suddenly,an idea occurred to her.“Maybe I can create something useful with the leftovercloth!”she thought excitedly.
